God Referred a Client to Me!

Being a bankruptcy lawyer, representing mostly debtors, is a tough business in that the odds are generally stacked against the client and me. I had to try and figure out a way to get a decent result without the ability to bill like big firms, which are paid like clockwork from creditors.  Today I got one of the nicest messages I’ve ever received from a client, and I’m sharing it:

This message is for Mr. Pressman, Mr. Norman Pressman, from ***** in Labadie, Missouri.  You probably have forgotten who I am, but you in the early '90's, you helped us, my husband and I, keep our farm from bankruptcy, from being sold on the courthouse steps.  I have never really thanked you for it.  I don't think that as the years have gone on, I have wanted – my husband died in 2016 – and you know in my heart, I just wanted a chance to tell you, Mr. Pressman, what that meant to us.

I still live on *****, although I've sold the farm to a couple who have restored the old farmhouse and it's just wonderful.  And I can kind of look down on the farm, and they have cattle and chickens and everything, and so you were really responsible for us being able to keep it and then later I could sell it, and I am just immensely grateful for what you did in the early '90's.  And I just want to thank you from the bottom of my heart.

You don't need to call, but just know that you were the man that God sent me to.  I didn't realize it at the time.  You sorta scared me the first time I met you, but I knew later that, you know, God had one person in mind to walk me through that Chapter 11 that was filed and you.  I just am so grateful and thankful, and hope that you are well and your family, and just hope the very best for you always.

I’m not going to tell her that I am an atheist, but if I knew that God was referring clients to me, I might not have retired!
