I’m Back!

I returned from a four-day raft trip on the Colorado river above the Grand Canyon in what’s called Cataract Canyon.  I did this one because it did not require a hike into or out of the river.  It was ridiculously hot.  First time in my life I got sun burn and its taken a week to heal.

Its amazing to raft in such a place. Looking at the rock formations remind one that the whole history of human existence is a tiny part of Earth’s history.  If I had been there in 1500, about the time of the Enlightenment. things would have looked pretty much the same.

Its also interesting to think about being isolated, which we were for the trip with no internet access.  I kept wondering what had happened while I was floating. I also realized that money, which is a human invention, had virtually no use on the river.  If you didn’t bring something you needed, you couldn’t buy it although you might try to buy it from a fellow traveler.  Even so it is amazing to think about how early settlers could have come west without all the supplies we took!

Finally looking up at the stars was great although my eyesight only let me see a few of the artificial satellites!
